We have started to build a foundation for our research about gender representation in the music industry. We began by looking at renowned album and magazine covers, which feature both males and females. However at a first glance the way in which both genders are represented, are obvious.
This is shown through the thorough analysis of the following images:
Rolling Stone Magazine Cover- Kid Rock
Rendez-Vous Album Cover- David Vendetta
After analysing the Camera Angle, Mise-en-scene, and lighting, I came to the conclusion that both covers show a sense of patriarchy, this is illustrated by the body language towards the men and indecent image of the females, who are portrayed as just objects. Additionally, the covers revealed that the men held an aura of power, this is shown by the casual body language, smart clothing, and arrogant facial expressions.
