What is a DigiPak?

A Digipak is a lightweight and more environmentally friendly, substitute for the common 'Jewel Case' packaging. It's lightweight traits are due to the use of thick card rather than a heavier option such as plastic. Furthermore, the Digipak is unbreakable, and also allows great graphic display. It is known to be extremely versatile, and usually contains a booklet based on the artists, nevertheless it is also common for the contents of the booklet to be printed onto the actual Digipak as the panels can be increased from four to eight sides, at least.

Material options
Although the Digipak appears basic and even said to look "less developed", it in fact allows artists to reveal their characteristics through the materials that are utilised in production. For example, it is common for the Digipaks to be created from 300 gsm card, however it could be 'Glossy' or 'Varnished' depending on the look of the artist. A 'Pop Girl Band' may prefer for their case to be 'Glossy' as it reflects their glamorous characteristics, whereas the alternative would be a 'Varnished' finish. Furthermore, the colours applied to the case also work in a similar way as albums using primary colours may attract a younger audience, however the use of more detailed colours and paints would make the cover art appear more vivid and appealing to the older, experimental generation. Finally, the finishing additions to the Digipak offer spot varnishing, lamination and embossing, which again portray the artist and attract their target audience.

Dimensions
The dimension of the Digipak varies depending on the number of panels, however the most common size is the 4pp Digipak which measures 139.5mm x 6mm x 125.5 mm.
